Lisbon has four rail stations and is the main gateway to other cities in Portugal. Santa Apolonia Station is Lisbon's international link and the western terminus of most European rail traffic. However, you can also arrive in Lisbon at the Terreiro do Paco south rail station, with the train departing from Vila Real St. Antonia to Berreiro if you come home from Seville. Rossio Station, at Praca do Rossio, is located in the heart of Lisbon on the immediate left of the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. Rossio Station serves as the commuter train origin to locations west of Lisbon. Campolide Station, the first rail station past Rossio, is the stop for the Alcantara commuter train to Cascais or for travel to Azambuja. Cais do Sodre Station is where trains from Estoril and Cascais terminate. Terreiro do Paco Station is the ferryboat terminal for crossings to Barreiro Station on the east bank of the Tagus River. From Barrriro trains depart for cities in the Algarve. Portugal's rail system, Cambinhos de Ferro Portugueses, accepts Eurail passes. © 2009, The Globe Pequot Press, LaVerne Ferguson-Kosinski Information by Europe by Eurail
